The List of Original Marchers

Thirty-two came from Gujarat Provinces, six from Cutch, four from Kerala, three from the Punjab three from Rajputana, two from Bombay, and one each from Sindh, Nepal, Tamilnad, Andhra, Utkal, Karnatak, Bihar and Bengal), and the second, entitles “Who’s giving a brief description of the Marchers who had been accepted up to that point.
The list of Marchers, with additional information from Mehta and Desai’s book Dandi Kuch (1969), is as follows:

No. 1 Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Mahatma. Age 61. From Gujarat.
No. 2 Pyarelal Nayyar. Age 30. From Punjab. Personal staff of Gandhiji. B.A. (Punjab University); Quit M. A. studies during Non-Cooperation Movement of 1920.
No. 3 Chhaganlal Naththubhai Joshi. Age 35. From Gujarat. B.A. Bombay, has been manager of Sabarmati Ashram since Maganlal Gandhi’s death; was student of Prof. Patric Geddes; Participated in the Non-Cooperation movement in 1920.
No. 4 Pandit Narayan Moreshwar Khare. Age 42.From Maharashtra. After 12 year training in music from Pandit Vishnu Digambar’s Gandharva Academy of Music; taught music and conducted prayers at Sabarmati Ashram, he composed the Ashram Bhajanavali.
No. 5 Ganpatrav Godshe. Age 25. From Maharashtra. Graduate of Gujarat Vidyapith; teacher.
No. 6 Prathviraj Lakshmidas Ashar. Age 19. From Cutch. Student in Ashram School.
No. 7 Mahavir Giri. Age 20. From Nepal. Student in Ashram School.
No. 8 Bal Dattatreya Kalelkar. Age 18. From Maharashtra. Student in Ashram school. Younger son of Kakasaheb Kalelkar.
No. 9 Jayanti Naththubhai Parekh. Age 19. From Gujarat. Student in Ashram School.

No. 15 Chhotubhai Khushalbhai Patel. Age 22. From Gujarat. Khadi Weaver.
No. 16 Valjibhai Govindji Desai. Age 35. From Gujarat. Was lecturer of English in Gujarat College, Ahmedabad. Quit the job when he was not permitted to attend the Congress session in 1916. Was professor at the Hindu University in Banaras. Joined the staff of ‘Young India’, went to jail during the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1921.

No. 18 Abbas Varteji ; Age 20. From Gujarat. Expert in carding and spinning, teaches in the Khadi Technical school.
No. 19 Punjabhai Shah. Age 25. From Gujarat. Resident of Sabarmati Ashram for some years.
No. 20 Madhavjibhai Thakkar. Age 40. From Cutch. Ran a successful business in London. Left flourishing business in Calcutta and joined the Ashram a few months ago.
No. 21 Naranjibhai. Age 22. From Cutch. Khadi worker from Orissa.
No. 22 Maganbhai Vora. Age 25. From Cutch. Khadi worker from Orissa.
